Directing Showreel May 2025
Director – Short Sports Documentary
My first piece of factual content. An interview with Matthew Douglas, a basketball coach local to the Cumbernauld area who finds the time to play pick-up whenever he can despite a severe ACL injury.
As my first documentary, I learnt a lot which I carried on into my future projects. Despite a glitch in the credits, it's still a film I'm proud of and a testament to how many interesting stories are out there waiting to be captured on film.
Director – Short Comedy/Drama
My first solo-managed project. Out of Tune is a story of a young man trying desperately to find connection, despite driving everyone in his life away with an arrogant, lazy attitude.
The script had passion behind it from the start, and I may come back to it and remake it in the future using my new experience in the industry to create a better final product. I learnt a lot of writing and directing skills from this film that I have continued to build and adapt from.
Co-Director – Short Horror
My first real short film, a directorial collaboration between myself and fellow students Dylan Bell and Vithursan Mahendran. A classic horror concept of a group of young men being stalked by an unknown figure in the woods at night.
Definitely making this film was the biggest learning experience for me when it came to working on set. The darkness, rain and cold conditions meant we had to adapt constantly, which is a skill I have had to use a lot in my projects since.
Actor – Short Comedy
A fun short comedy that won the best HNC film at the NCL film awards, directed by fellow student Luca Giannelli. An action-packed gangster film set in Scotland following four unspectacular criminals as they clash over a bag of money.
Acting in this film was definitely a fun time for me; the freedom in the script was fun to play around with, and the rest of the cast were great. Definitely a great chance to see what it is like to be in the shoes of an actor, which I believe personally is an important skill for a director to possess.
Actor – Short Comedy
A short comedy following a disgraced actor's return from prison to a world that tests his temper. Another fun project that allowed me to collaborate again with Luca Giannelli and Dylan Bell.
This project was a fun excuse for our team to experiment with action shots; most of the time leading up to the shoot was spent meticulously planning how to make each punch, kick and knee look real. I played the titular Mad Chad and had a lot of fun improvising my lines in the failed comedian scene.
Writer – Short Noir trailer
The very first project I ever worked on since joining the HNC course at NCL. A simple trailer for a fake noir movie about a no-nonsense detective investigating a crime syndicate in the fictional Atlantic Avenue.
I wrote the voiceover script and provided the voice for it as well as taking on the role of the bartender. This early project taught me an important skill as a writer: the knowledge of how long it actually takes an actor or voice actor to say the words on the script. This helped me for every project since, in ensuring I stayed organised and on schedule.
